Visiting Trainer Information

Welcome to Lees-McRae College! Hopefully your stay here will be uneventful. Our weather here can change rapidly, so for your convenience on the left is a link to the current weather conditions here in Banner Elk, as well as our emergency plan.

The Athletic Training room is located in Williams Gymnasium and is open one and a half hours prior to scheduled events. If a certified athletic trainer is travel with your team the athletic training room and equipment are at your disposal. In the event your team is traveling with an athletic training student or without any coverage, please contact us in advance and we will be happy to assist in any way possible. If taping or other supplies are needed please send those supplies with the team.

The dressing/locker rooms are located next to the athletic training room, please check with the coaching staff with regards to keys.

All scheduled home events are covered by a certified athletic trainer as well as athletic training students. Equipment supplied are as follows:

  • 10 gallon cooler of water
  • Cups
  • Injury ice and bags
  • Bio-hazard container

Emergency situations may arise at anytime during athletic events/practices. When they occur the following steps should be activated to provide adequate care. The most qualified individual on the scene should assess the situation and provide care (ATC, Athletic Training Student/ Coach). If its determined that EMS is required the following steps should be followed:

  1. Contact the Athletic Training Room via the radio and inform of the situation and need for EMS at your location. (or, if no radio is available)
  2. Call 911 from cell phone or nearest land line; Williams gym, Athletic Training Room, Pool, Offices 9-911.
  3. Give name, location, situation, number of injured, treatment being provided.
  4. Send someone to meet and direct the ambulance to the location.

The Track is located on Hickory Nut Gap Road, beyond the entrance to Williams Gym on the left hand side (coming from Banner Elk). In the event that an ambulance is needed at this venue a member of the athletic training staff will be waiting at this entrance to assist in the proper route to the injured student athlete.

Williams Gym is located along Hickory Nut Gap Road on the left hand side (coming from Banner Elk). Take the first entrance on the left, go down the parking lot toward the day care center and take the first gravel road on your right. A member of the athletic training staff will be waiting to direct you to the proper entrance.

Lees-McRae Practice fields are located beside Williams gym located along Hickory Nut Gap Road on the left hand side (coming from Banner Elk). Take the first entrance on the left. If an ambulance is needed at one of the practice fields a member of the athletic staff will be waiting once you turn off Hickory Nut Gap Road to direct you to the proper location.

Turning off Tynecastle Road onto Central way past the Post Office can access the Old Rock Gym. Turn left onto Banner Road then take the next right, at the stop sign by the book store turn Left. Once you see the Avery Arts Council Building turn Right and the Old Rock Gym is located at the bottom of the hill.
