Video Essay Contest Rules

My Future Elevated: You could win a full tuition scholarship to Lees-McRae College if you get creative and answer one of these two questions in a video essay:

Why are you a good fit for Lees-McRae College?

How will attending Lees-McRae College elevate your future?

1. Steps to Enter

a. Apply to Lees-McRae College

b. Upload your video to www.YouTube.com any time between now and April 1, 2013. Videos must be no longer than three minutes

c. Submit a link to your video to go.lmc.edu/videoessay

d. Finalists will be announced on Monday, April 8, 2013 and voting will open to the public until 11:59pm on Monday, April 22, 2013.

e. Winners will be announced and notified on April 23, 2013

2. Eligibility

a. Competition is only open to students entering Lees-McRae College in the fall 2013 semester.

b. All videos must be submitted by the contest deadline, April 1, 2013

c. Students must apply and be admitted to Lees-McRae College prior to April 1, 2013.

d. Students must enroll at Lees-McRae College in the fall 2013 semester in order to receive the scholarship.

e. Video submissions will be accepted until April 1, 2013 at 11:59pm. Lees-McRae College selection committee will choose five finalists based on originality, creativity, adherence to the theme and overall quality of the video

3. Creating Your Video

a. Consider working within a creative limit, such as not showing your face or using only written text. Try to avoid simply recording yourself talking; instead, show us what makes you a standout fit for Lees-McRae College.

b. Do your research! Go online and look at some examples of video essays. Which ones are your favorites? What did they say to you? What made them stand out? Which ones did you NOT like? What mistakes do you want to avoid?

c. Your video can be as short as you want to make it, but there is a three minute maximum length for your submission.

d. The Video must be your own work. You cannot hire a professional to film or produce your video (checking out equipment from your school and recruiting your friends to help is fine).

e. Videos will not be accepted or eligible if they include obscene material, drug or alcohol use, nudity, profanity, derogatory comments or information, or any other conduct language or context deemed inappropriate by the selection committee.
